Spider Vein Treatment

The Vein Care Center is the only office in the region to provide different types of corrective treatment for spider veins, none of which interfere with your normal, day-to-day activities. Patients in the Lima, Celina and the surrounding communities of Auglaize County area have entrusted Dr. Manu B. Aggarwal, a board-certified and aesthetic-laser-certified family physician with expertise in treating venous conditions with their care for more than five years.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins are smaller than varicose veins and usually appear in a starburst or web-like pattern on the body. They are usually red, purple or blue in color and often appear on the legs and/or face. Although spider veins are usually a cosmetic issue, in some cases, they can indicate a more serious medical condition. Spider veins are more common in women than in men, affecting approximately 75 percent of the female population.

What Are the Symptoms of Spider Veins?

Aside from being readily visible, spider veins can also cause:

  • Pain
  • Aching
  • Burning
  • Swelling

What Causes Spider Veins?

Although genetics play a significant role in the development of spider veins, there are other factors that can contribute to the condition:

  • Hormones – (puberty, pregnancy, or while taking birth control pills or while on hormone replacement therapy)
  • Sun exposure
  • Injury – (often resulting from wearing tight, constricting garments or hosiery)
  • Standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time
  • Obesity
  • Smoking

Laser Treatment of Spider Veins

Spider veins can be treated effectively with surface laser techniques, thereby sparing the patient from having to undergo procedures where needles are used. Laser spider vein treatment uses a method that emits waves of light directly onto the vein, which causes the vascular anomaly to disappear. Laser therapy is not recommended for small veins that measure over 1/10 inch or 3 mm.

What Methods of Spider Vein Treatment Are Available at the Vein Care Center?

The Vein Care Center offers state-of-the-art care for spider vein treatment:

  • Laser Treatment of Spider Veins
  • Injection Sclerotherapy

How Long Do Treatment Sessions Last?

Each treatment session lasts about 20 minutes.

How Many Treatments Are Required?

An average of four treatments are needed to remove the veins from larger areas, such as the legs, while smaller areas, such as the face, may require up to three sessions.

Is There Any Downtime?

Patients can resume their daily routines after each laser treatment.
