According to the Ohio Revised Code (4731-18-03) a Physician may delegate the use of light based (laser) medical devices for the purpose of hair removal to only a physician assistant, a registered nurse or a cosmetic therapist.

Cosmetic therapists are the only professionals licensed by the State of Ohio to permanently remove hair and perform laser hair reduction using electrolysis and laser.  Ohio defines Cosmetic Therapy as a “limited branch of the practice of medicine”.  Cosmetic therapy is not the practice of cosmetology or esthetics.

The training to become a cosmetic therapist consists of in class and clinical training focusing specifically on hair, its growth patterns, abnormal hair growth and the science behind hair removal and methods to remove unwanted hair.  This training then permits application to the State Medical Board of Ohio’s Cosmetic Therapy Examination.  Upon successful completion of the Ohio Medical Board Exam the Cosmetic Therapist is then officially licensed in the State of Ohio to perform electrolysis and laser hair removal.

Electrolysis is permanent hair removal. Regardless of the cause – heredity, metabolic, or hormonal conditions – electrolysis will permanently remove unwanted hair to reveal a glowing, confident you. As the hair is treated, regrowth is prevented rather than just removed temporarily. Only electrolysis provides both hair removal and hair elimination

The science behind electrolysis – A small electric current is transmitted by a fine, sterile probe (or needle) directly into the natural opening of the hair follicle, destroying the dermal papilla, the matrix, and an area called “the bulge”, all of which cause hair to grow and regenerate.  There are three types, or modalities, of electrolysis used today – galvanic (current produces a chemical reaction), thermolysis (short-wave which produces heat) and a modality that blends the two. They all result in effective permanent hair removal.

Laser hair removal is one of the most commonly done cosmetic procedures in the U.S. It beams highly concentrated light into hair follicles. Pigment in the follicles absorb the light. That destroys the hair.

At the Vein Care Center we use the Cutera® HR laser (Nd:YAG 1064nm and Alexandrite 755nm) to perform laser hair removal. The laser emits an intense, focused beam of light that targets the melanin in the hair follicle and damages it. The Nd:YAG laser works well in most areas and on all skin types; the 755nm is ideal for lighter skin tones

You can be confident in choosing the Vein Care Center for all your hair removal methods.  We have both a registered nurse and board certified cosmetic therapist on staff ready to take care of you!
