At the Vein Care Center, our expert team provides professional treatment for spider veins, focusing on both aesthetic improvement and vein health. Their advanced approach helps patients address vascular concerns while enhancing overall skin appearance. Every patient receives personalized care that considers their unique vein patterns, skin type and treatment goals.

What Are Spider Veins?

Spider veins (telangiectasias) are small, damaged blood vessels that appear close to the skin’s surface. They typically resemble spider webs or tree branches and can be red, blue or purple. While these tiny vessels rarely cause negative physical symptoms, they often create cosmetic concerns for patients who feel self-conscious about their appearance.

Spider veins develop when tiny, one-way valves inside the veins weaken. In healthy veins, these valves push blood in one direction—back to the heart. When these valves weaken, some blood flows backward and accumulates in the vein. This extra blood puts excessive pressure on the vein walls, causing them to bulge and become visible through the skin.

Several factors contribute to spider vein development, including genetic predisposition, prolonged standing or sitting, hormonal changes, sun exposure, aging, pregnancy, injury and previous vein conditions. For many patients, spider veins affect not only physical appearance but also confidence, particularly when wearing shorts, skirts or swimwear.

How Are Spider Veins Treated?

We address spider veins through a comprehensive treatment approach that utilizes both traditional and advanced therapies. The Vein Care Center team’s expertise in vascular medicine allows for precise treatment that targets visible veins while protecting the surrounding skin. We are proud to offer two primary treatments for spider veins: sclerotherapy and laser therapy.

Sclerotherapy: The Gold Standard

Sclerotherapy remains the most popular treatment for spider veins on the legs, and for good reason—it’s effective. During this procedure, we use microneedles to inject a specialized solution directly into the affected veins. The solution irritates the vein lining, causing it to collapse and eventually be reabsorbed by the body. Over time, these treated spider veins fade or disappear entirely.

Treatment sessions are quick, typically lasting 20-30 minutes, depending on the number of veins needing treatment. Most patients report only experiencing minimal discomfort during the procedure, describing it as a slight pinching sensation. Sclerotherapy treatments do not require anesthesia, and patients usually resume normal activities immediately afterward.

Laser Therapy: An Advanced Noninvasive Option

Laser therapy offers an excellent treatment option for smaller spider veins. During laser treatment, we direct concentrated light energy at the spider vein, which is absorbed by the blood vessels without damaging the surrounding tissue. The heat causes the vein to collapse and gradually fade over time.

Laser therapy sessions are quick, generally lasting 30-45 minutes, depending on the extent of the treatment area. Most patients tolerate the procedure well, which is most often described as a sensation similar to a rubber band briefly snapping against the skin.

What to Expect During Your Treatment Journey

01 /
Initial Consultation

Your treatment begins with your private, comprehensive consultation. During this visit, we thoroughly evaluate your vascular health, examining the pattern and severity of your spider veins. This assessment may include a review of your detailed medical history and, in some cases, a noninvasive ultrasound examination to rule out underlying venous issues and create a larger picture of your needs.

Based on this evaluation, we’ll develop your customized treatment plan and discuss which treatment option—sclerotherapy, laser therapy or a combination of both—will provide the best results for your particular case. Many patients appreciate this personalized approach, which considers factors such as vein size, location and skin characteristics.

02 /
During Your Treatment Sessions

On treatment day, you’ll be comfortably positioned in our procedure room. For sclerotherapy, after the treatment area is cleansed, we will inject the solution into targeted veins using very fine needles. The number of injections necessary will vary depending on the size of the treated area. Many patients read or converse with our staff during their treatment, finding the experience surprisingly relaxed.

For laser therapy treatments, protective eyewear is provided as you lie back and rest. After the treatment area is cleansed and prepared, the laser handpiece is guided over the spider vein areas, with each pulse of light targeting the pigment within the veins. Embedded cooling technology reduces excess warmth and ensures your comfort.

03 /
Recovery and Aftercare

Following either treatment, you can immediately return to most daily activities. We recommend wearing compression stockings for a specified period to enhance results and reduce the possibility of side effects. Walking is encouraged to promote circulation, though strenuous exercise should be avoided for a few days.

After laser treatment, the treated area may appear slightly red, similar to a mild sunburn, but this typically resolves within 24-48 hours. We provide comprehensive aftercare instructions, including sun protection guidelines and recommended skincare products supporting healing.

04 /
Results and Follow-Up Care

Most patients require a series of treatments to achieve optimal results. These sessions are typically scheduled 4-6 weeks apart, allowing time for the body to fully respond to the therapy between each treatment. While improvements may be visible after the first session, the full benefits develop gradually as treated veins continue to fade.

Regular follow-up assessments will help us monitor your progress. These check-ups ensure you’re achieving optimal results and allow us to address concerns that may arise.

Your treatment will eliminate existing spider veins but cannot prevent new veins from developing. For this reason, we will help develop personalized preventive strategies that support your long-term vascular health. These may include lifestyle modifications, targeted exercises or preventive skincare recommendations.
