Venous insufficiency in various degrees affect more than 40 percent of our population in the United States. These vein conditions do not only affect patients that carry extra weight or are overweight but can also affect those that are relatively healthy and lean. Once upon a time the common misconception for varicose and spider veins was that they were only present in the elderly. While many patients over the age of 35 are at higher risk for weak veins producing varicose veins, we see younger patients show signs of insufficiency as well.

For example, we had a young boy come in with phlebitis (inflammation of a vein) after getting kicked in the calf at a soccer game! We have also seen many patients in the early 20s with large varicose veins and leg pain and swelling.

While you may not currently show obvious signs of these vein conditions, the earlier you are diagnosed, the better chance you have to avoid discomfort and deep vein conditions. This does not mean you need a procedure!

One of the most frequently asked questions we receive at the Vein Care Center when consulting for vein treatments is: Don’t we need them all? While veins are an essential part of our circulatory system, once damaged they sometimes are no longer are useful to us. In essence, we don’t need them all if they’re damaged; we can remove spider or varicose veins without any harm to the venous system.

First, we will go through the parts of the circulatory system and how veins work, then we’ll further explain why it’s okay to remove problematic veins if medically necessary. These vein repair treatments were created to improve patients’ quality of life without causing further damage to the body, so you can rest assured that you will only benefit from these procedures.

Veins and the Part They Play in the Circulatory System

Arteries and veins are the messengers that carry blood from the heart and back to the heart. As soon as the heart picks up oxygenated blood from the lungs, the arteries are the responsible vessels that deliver that blood to the body. Once the blood is completely circulated, and all the oxygen has been taken up by the body, veins bring deoxygenated blood back up to the heart. This cycle continues over and over again in the body as both arteries and veins play their role in circulation.

However, the veins have a difficult time pushing blood up to the heart when they’re overworked and stressed; the veins move blood against gravity. Arteries are thicker and stronger than our veins because of the force exerted by the heart each time it pumps blood outward. Our veins are constructed with tiny valves that help them move the blood upward in sections throughout the body, especially

from the lower trunk. These valves make sure that blood continues upward and in one direction. The veins have an increased chance of becoming weak, but many veins work cohesively to share the burden. When a vein loses its ability to hold blood from weakened walls or stretched valves, that are not able to close and open correctly, we see varicose and spider veins.

Why We Can Remove Problematic Veins/h2>

Dr. Aggarwal and the team will explain the details of your particular vein health diagnosis during your consultation and which veins you’ll need to treat. But it’s important to know that incompetent or nonfunctioning veins are not always needed within the body – especially when they affect our daily life. As a matter of fact, once we remove varicose and spider veins from the body other healthy veins will take over, and your circulation is immediately improved.

When blood flows sufficiently through your veins, then damaged veins only act as a complication or road block. If your veins never functioned properly, then they serve no purpose. We do however, always try conservative measures prior to any procedures.

If you want to get rid of varicose veins and live without discomfort, these veintreatments are safe and will improve blood flow. Call VCC today to schedule your consultation at419-227-4472. We can also start with a free screening to give you an idea of your veins are working properly.
